I. General terms for delivery of the Handelsblatt Global
These General Terms and Conditions apply exclusively to the Handelsblatt Global and to related services and both supplement and explain our contractual relationship. As more detailed terms and conditions, they take priority over our other General Terms and Conditions.
2. Delivery and time of delivery
As a general rule, we agree upon delivery time and period individually with our subscribers or with companies provided they have a My Company subscription. If no separate agreement has been made, the following applies:
a. Delivery begins on the date indicated in the order, unless we specify another later date to you in our order confirmation. You, of course, also have to agree to this date. Delivery will be made for periods of 12 months and can be terminated with a notice of 4 weeks prior to the end of the delivery period.
b. Delivery will take place as a browser-based online publication.
c. As a general rule, the Handelsblatt Global is delivered by 12:00 noon on German trading days. Postponements and delays may occur while necessary editorial updates or revisions are being made (e.g. special events with significantly impacting economic and financial markets). In addition, delivery requires that subscribers have a functioning internet connection; we have no influence on technical problems of the subscriber.
3. Our Content
a. The Handelsblatt Global provides you with independent, real-time insight into the economic and financial markets of Germany and other Continental European countries each trading day. Our content is carefully researched and compiled.
b. As a subscriber, you acknowledge that all usage and exploitation rights to content are reserved by us or by our partners from whom we have received the content. Use of the content outside of the Handelsblatt Global and the use options provided to you therein require a separate agreement with us. If you are interested in any further use, please contact email@example.com. We will, of course, attempt to comply with your request to the best of our ability.
Since our content is our asset, any transfer, reproduction, use, editing or making content publicly accessible outside of the Handelsblatt Global is not permitted without our prior written consent.
4. Liability, Exemption
a. Although we carefully research and review our content, errors cannot be precluded. We thus accept no responsibility for the accuracy, completeness or timeliness of our information. We bear no liability for whether our content serves your objectives or results in your desired economic success.
b. The content of the My Company page – provided you have a My Company subscription – is the sole responsibility of our contract partners. We accept no responsibility for this content and for any claims, regardless of their nature, which arise if this content is published, reproduced, distributed or made publicly accessible. This also applies if we have edited or revised the content in consultation with you.
c. It is our task to send the Handelsblatt Global on time. However, we accept no responsibility for technical problems outside of our control.
d. We are liable for simple negligence to the extent that a material contractual obligation underlies the violation. In this event, our liability is limited to 500 euros for a single event or 1,000 euros for a 12-month period.
e. The above limitations on liability are not valid if our representatives or agents act deliberately or in a grossly negligent manner, in cases of injury to body, life or health or in the case of mandatory liability provided by law, i.e. under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz).
As is customary for online publications, the Handelsblatt Global contains advertisement spaces. The placement of advertisements is subject to the General Terms and Conditions for the Placement of Advertisements, which can be found at www.iqm.de/digital/mehr/agb. Because the Handelsblatt Global is an editorial product and subject to the rules of journalistic independence, no customer is entitled to appear in only a particular advertising environment.
We reserve the right to revise these terms and conditions from time to time. We will inform you of any revisions via e-mail. If you do not object to the change within four weeks, the latest terms and conditions are deemed to have been approved by you.

When the Handelsblatt Global is viewed by a subscriber, data such as date and time of the processing request, the kind of browser, the browser setting and the subscriber’s operating system, the last page visited by the subscriber, the volume of data transmitted and the access status (e.g. file transmitted, file not found etc.) are relayed to us for technical reasons. These data are, as a rule, not personal data. However, the subscriber’s computer usually also transmits its IP address, which in some cases can be personal.
c. Details on the Transfer of IP Addresses
The IP address, which is relayed to us in many cases (partly explained in more detail below), is a unique identification of the computer, which is valid worldwide and realized by the internet provider at the time of allocation. An IP address is made up of four blocks of numbers that are separated by periods. In most cases, private users’ IP addresses do not stay the same since they are only temporarily allocated by providers (so-called “dynamic IP address”). The provider can track which IP address was assigned to which of its customers at what point in time. As a rule, the assignment of a dynamic IP address to a particular person is not possible for other persons, including us. This is different only for a permanently assigned IP address (so-called “static IP address”), which uses this feature to make a clear assignment of user data possible. Except for the purpose of tracking unauthorized access to our internet offering, we – as a rule – do not analyze these data in relation to an individual person but rather only on an anonymized basis – how many page impressions are made each day, when they are made and similar data.
3. Plug-ins and Statistical Tools
We collect other data for individual services that we offer. These data are, in part, used for statistical purposes. For example, we look into how often the Handelsblatt Global is viewed in order to establish a basis for our media data. We do not rule out integrating plug-ins (or add-ons – these terms are used interchangeably) such as Facebook or Twitter into our offering.
Plug-ins are offers from third-party contractors such as e.g. Facebook. They create links to these providers. In some cases, only data on browser behavior are relayed. However, when a user actively uses a plug-in (e.g. as part of a Google profile), this information is also transmitted. Some information on the individual plug-ins is listed below:
- Plug-in from the social network Facebook
Our offering may at some point contain plug-ins from the social network, Facebook.
These plug-ins are offerings of Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA. The plug-ins can be recognized based on the Facebook logo and/or the phrase “Like”. If a page with this kind of plug-in is called up, the internet browser creates a direct link with the servers of Facebook Inc. In the process, the content of the plug-ins is relayed to the internet browser, which then integrates it into the page shown. In doing so, the information that the website was visited is relayed. If the user is logged into a personal Facebook user account when the page is called up, Facebook Inc. associates the visit to the website with this user account.
When a user uses the plug-in, for example, by clicking the “Like” button, this information is relayed directly to Facebook Inc. and saved there.
A user can prevent this kind of data transfer by logging out of the Facebook user account before viewing our products.
- Plug-in from the social network Twitter
With Twitter and the re-Tweet functions, plug-ins from twitter.com, an offering of Twitter Inc., 795 Folsom St., Suite 600, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA are used.
When a user uses the re-Tweet functions, the pages he or she visited are made public to third parties and linked to his or her Twitter account.
- Plug-in from the social network Google+
The Google +1 button is a plug-in of the social network Google+, an offering of Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA (“Google”).
With the help of the Google +1 button, information can be published worldwide. The Google +1 button allows users to receive personalized content from Google and our partners. Google saves both the information, which is relayed for a +1, as well as information on the page that was viewed while clicking on +1. A user’s +1s can be displayed together with his or her profile name and the image in Google services such as search results or in the user’s Google profile, or in other places on websites and advertisements on the internet.
Google registers information on +1 activities.
A globally visible Google profile, which has to include at least the name chosen for the profile, is necessary in order to be able to use the +1 button. This name is used in all of the Google services. In some cases this name can also replace another name which was used while sharing content via the Google account. The identity of the Google profile can be shown to third parties who know the user’s e-mail address or have other identifying information on the user.
- Plug-in from the service provider Hasoffers Inc.
Our apps (e.g. the Handelsblatt web app or the WirtschaftsWoche app) use a plug-in from the service provider Hasoffers Inc., 2220 Western Avenue, Seattle, WA 98121, USA. When pages with the integrated plug-in are viewed, a user’s browser creates a direct connection with the servers of Hasoffers. Through the integration of the plug-ins, Hasoffers receives the following information: agent version, operating system, SDK version, time stamp, API key (for identifying the app), app version, kind of mobile end device, UDID, model (non-IOS), manufacturer (non-IOS), version of operating system used to run the device (non-IOS), start and end of sitting, time, place, time zone as well as network status (e.g. WIFI). In addition, Hasoffers collects the following data: anonymized user ID, latitude and longitude, events, errors and page impressions. A user’s dynamic IP address is shown by the site view. The user can object to the storage of these data by writing an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. After an e-mail has been sent, it can take several work days to process the request.
b. Analysis Tools
We use numerous analysis tools. They have various functions. For example, for our work, it is important for us to see the reach of our offering in order to have direct feedback on our services. performance.
- Google Analytics
Our offering uses Google Analytics, a web-based analysis service of Google Inc. (“Google”). Google Analytics uses so-called “cookies”, text data which are saved by a computer and which allow for an analysis of the use of the website by the user (see number 2 above). The information generated by the cookie on what we provide online is normally transmitted to a Google server in the USA and saved there. However, if the IP anonymization is activated on our pages, the user’s IP address is abbreviated by Google within member states of the European Union or in other signatory states of the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases is the entire IP address relayed to a Google server in the USA and abbreviated there. Google uses this information to analyze the use of our offering in order to compile reports on website activities and in order to generate other services relating to the use of the website and internet use for the website operator. The browser’s IP address, which is used by Google Analytics, is not merged with other Google data.
The gathering of the data generated by the cookie and relating to the use of the website (including the IP address) by Google as well as the processing of this data can be prevented by downloading and installing the browser plug-in provided via this link.
We use programs from the company Webtrekk GmbH, Hannoverische Straße 19, 10115 Berlin, Germany. Webtrekk GmbH is certified for data protection in the area of web controlling. Part of the certification is an audit at Webtrekk in Berlin and at the hosting location Nuremberg, where the processing of “tracking data” is reviewed for its compliance with data protection laws and data security.
The programs of Webtrekk GmbH collect technical data for the purpose of optimizing our offering. These data are relayed to Webtrekk GmbH. The user’s IP address is relayed with every server inquiry so that the server knows where the answer should be sent. We and our statistical service provider do not permanently save the IP address, but rather use it for session recognition and the prevention of attacks. The IP address is quickly deleted at the end of each web session so that the data gathered are anonymous and the user’s identity is not possible to see, even by detouring through the provider.
The storage of data by the software of Webtrekk GmbH can at any time be objected to with future effect. For the exclusion from Webtrekk, a cookie with the name webTrekkOptOut is set by the domain www.webtrekk.net. This objection is valid as long as the cookie is not deleted by the user. The objection can be made and the storage of the data can be prevented in the future by clicking here.
- IVW / INFOnline
Our websites use the “Scalable Centralized Measuring System” (Skalierbares zentrales Messverfahren – SZM) of INFOnline GmbH for determining statistic parameters for the use of our products. In the process, anonymous measured values are collected. Alternatively, the SZM reach measurement can also use a cookie with the name “ioam.de”, “ivwbox.de”, a local storage object or a signature, made up of different kinds of information automatically relayed by the user’s browser, for the recognition of computer systems. IP addresses are only processed in their anonymized form. The reach measurement was developed bearing in mind data protection guidelines. The goal of reach measurement is to statistically determine the usage intensity and the number of users of our products.
Individual users are at no time identified. Their identity always remains protected. The user does not receive any advertisements from the system. Since we are a member of the Information Community for the Assessment of the Circulation of Media (IVW), the usage statistics are published on a monthly basis by the Association of Online Research (AGOF) and the Association of Media Analysis (ag.ma), as well as by the IVW, and can be viewed at www.agof.de, www.agma-mmc.de and www.ivw.eu.
In addition to the publishing of measurement data, IVW also monitors the SZM process on a regular basis with regard to use – which is compliant with regulations and data protection. Additional information on the SZM process can be found on the website of INFOnline GmbH, which carries out the SZM process, the AGOF data protection website and the IVW data protection website. - Flurry (only web apps)
We use analysis tools from Flurry Inc., 282 2nd Street # 202, San Francisco, CA 94105, USA. Here, cookies which allow us to analyze the user’s use of the website, for example, a page impression, are saved on the computer. With the use of so-called “web beacons,” we deliver cookies and count the page impressions. The information generated on the use of our apps is relayed to Flurry servers and saved there. This only occurs on an anonymized basis. The information transferred is used to assess the website activities, compile reports on this subject and generate other services relating to the use of the website and the internet. The information is only transferred to third-parties if it is required by law or within the framework of contractual relationships. The transfer of data to Flurry can be objected to here. However, we point out that if this is done, it is possible that not all of the app functions will be able to be used to their full extent.
- Adeven (only Apps)
We also use the analysis technology “Adjust.io analyzer” or the “Adjust.io verifier” for our apps. Both of these are systems from Adeven GmbH, Saarbrücker Straße 36, 10405 Berlin, Germany. Adeven uses IP and Mac addresses of the users for this analysis; however, this is only done anonymously. The collection of this data can be objected to at any time for future effect. Our website is supported by a recommender and personalization system. This is carried out by Plista GmbH, Torstraße 33, 10119 Berlin, Germany. Plista enables our products to be personalized by individualizing our content and advertisements and thus improving user-friendliness. For this purpose, Plista collects information on preferences based on the use of our products by using cookies (e.g. assessments). All of the data is collected anonymously. The saving of cookies can be prevented at any time by changing the browser settings. Likewise, saved cookies can also be deleted. In addition, the data collection can be objected to here with future effect.
4. What data do we collect during registration or the first page view of the Handelsblatt Global and what do we use them for?
During registration, we receive personal information from the subscriber. The protection of these data is important to us. We do not sell personal data to third parties and, in general, take the greatest possible precautions for their security.
a. What data do we receive from a subscriber during registration?
In order for the Handelsblatt Global to be viewed, we need e.g. the name, e-mail address and contact details for any questions. These data are compulsory. A subscriber can provide us with further information, for example in order to inform us about special interest areas.
We save this data in a customer account. This allows the subscriber to easily log into all of our online products with the use of a password.
b. What data do we save if a subscriber agrees to receiving information from us on special offers?
If we have this consent, we, meaning the companies of the Handelsblatt Publishing Group, process and use the data to provide the subscriber with customer-based and efficient access to our products and services outside of the Handelsblatt Global. This is done, for example, with personalized website design or the display of advertisement banners which could be of interest to the subscriber. In addition, we are happy to send the subscriber offers relating to our products or services. For this purpose, we internally consolidate data into user profiles and analyze them, which however, is only done for the aforementioned purposes.
There is no transfer of the data to third parties outside of the Handelsblatt Group as long as the subscriber does not explicitly agree to this kind of transfer or it was explicitly indicated as outlined above.

We have taken extensive technical and operational safety precautions against unauthorized seizure and misuse of the personal data held by us. Our safety processes are reviewed and adapted on a regular basis to conform with the latest technical developments.
