Germany isn't sticking to the target it set under the Paris Climate Agreement. The country has already reached its CO2 quota for the entire year, having released 217 million tonnes of the greenhouse gas by the end of March. According to a study commissioned by the World Wildlife Fund and the Future Natural Gas industry initiative, Germany will release four times as much CO2 as allowed under the agreement.
Person of the day
Foreign Minister Heiko Maas is in New York lobbying for his country to hold one of the five open UN Security Council seats. The minister will make his case that Germany is eager to partake in international peacekeeping and security efforts. The election by the UN General Assembly will take place June 8. Germany's two competitors are Belgium and Israel; the other three seats are for groups from Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. Source:
