Some 1,500 left-wing demonstrators marched through Berlin to protest rising rents, capitalism and arms exports as part of the annual May Day event. The demonstrations, which were mixed with family-friendly events, were heavily policed, but officials ended the day pleased that there was little violence and relatively few arrests. Source:

Germany is still biting its nails after the United States said it would again delay for a month a decision on whether the EU will be exempted from punitive import tariffs on steel and aluminum. In an interview with Handelsblatt, Ifo economist Clemens Fuest said the country's prosperity could be in danger.
