A headless mannequin led to a strong police response on Monday in Weinstadt in southern Germany. A hiker saw what they thought was a decapitated body in an inaccessible trench and notified the authorities, who then discovered the hoax. Most advertising budgets are now spent online and over half of that cash goes to just two companies: Google and Facebook. Despite the near-monopoly and recent privacy scandal, companies that want to reach customers have little choice in where to advertise.
Person of the day
Another day, another musician returning their Echo German music award. The artists are incensed that rappers Kollegah and Farid Bang received an award this year despite songs having anti-semitic lyrics. Recognizing the pair is "a completely irresponsible, unbelievable misstep by the Echo jury and, at the same time, an expression of the current condition of our society," Mr. Levit, a Russian pianist, wrote on Twitter as he pledged to return the award he won in 2014.

A new logo is just the thing!
Dented by Dieselgate and struggling to win back consumer trust, VW will unveil a reworked logo next year when it premiers a new line of electric cars. It will be the 10th logo since the company's founding in 1937.
