The BVG, Berlin's public transport company, teamed up with shoemaker Adidas and retailer Overkill to get a marketing gimmick out of the station on time. The trio put 500 limited-edition shoes up for sale at two shops in Berlin, leading to long lines of sneaker enthusiasts. The footwear, which sells for €180, features the BVG's distintictive anti-graf upholstery pattern and a subway pass valid for one year. Source:

Come on down, Kellyanne Conway: You're the winner of the worst German neologism of 2017! Every year, an independent jury in Germany meets to pick the word and the “un-word” of the year, which are respectively the best and worst neologisms of the past 12 months. “Alternative Fakten” or alternative facts, a phrase first used by President Donald Trump's former adviser, beat out “fake news” and other suggestions sent in by the public.

With residential real estate growing scarce, housing advocates from Portland to Berlin place part of the blame on the explosion of Airbnb, a platform where renters and homeowners can charge guests to stay in their abode. There is an increasing concern that people will buy up in-demand properties just to host them on the flat-sharing platform, edging out residents and overcharging tourists.
