German companies are increasingly concerned about what will happen to Catalonia following the region's referendum, according to the president of the German wholesalers' association. Half of German companies based in Spain are located in the region, from Siemens and Bayer to BASF and Evonik.

Amazon is not the only company required to repay taxes in the EU. Last year, the European Commission ordered Ireland to collect €13 billion from Apple, the biggest case to date. Whether the companies will actually have to cough up will keep courts busy for years.
