Consumer electronics retailers Media Markt and Saturn have built a reputation for competitive prices, the largest selection of products, and comprehensive service.
The two chains, part of German retail group Metro, struggled a few years ago as shoppers were increasingly buying online. The stores have since developed a strategy to set themselves apart from competitors such as Amazon, eBay and German online fashion retailer Zalando.
Now, Media-Saturn Group is giving Amazon a run for its money when it comes to the quickest deliveries in Germany.
Only a few days after the U.S. online retail giant announced same-day delivery in many regions, consumer electronics retailer Media-Saturn said it would offer faster service in almost every corner of its home market.
But it’s not all so straightforward. Influential minority shareholder Erich Kellerhals objects to the new business models, even if earnings show that the group’s fortunes are turning.
