Europe’s second-largest parcel service, DPD, is throwing its hat into the online market for perishable groceries through a partnership with the meal delivery service HelloFresh, the managing director of DPD, Andreas Ress, told Handelsblatt.
“We are convinced that enormous potential lies in the online grocery market,” Mr. Ress said in an interview.
HelloFresh, founded in Berlin in 2011, delivers meal boxes to its customers five days a week. DPD will be HelloFresh’s exclusive delivery service in Germany. Starting this summer, the parcel service plans to partner with other meal delivery companies under the name DPD Food.
Amazon and the grocery chain Rewe currently dominate the €1.1-billion ($1.15 billion) online grocery market in Germany.
